Board Candidates Elections 2025-2027 Term

We’re hosting our annual board elections next month and are opening the call for applications! There are up to 4 seats open, with several current board members running and room for several new faces.

Call for Applications

The Internet Society engages in a wide range of Internet issues, including policy, governance, technology, and development, with more than 110 Chapters worldwide. The San Francisco Bay Area Internet Society Chapter focuses on Internet access issues, diversity, and digital inclusion in California. We are a California-registered non-profit with a regional Board of Directors and 1,200+ members.

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) entity with a working board, the SF Bay Area ISOC Chapter’s work is funded entirely by donations, sponsorships, and grants, and we rely on volunteers for our day-to-day activities.

Our mission is simple: The Internet is for Everyone.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is currently accepting applications for the upcoming 2025-2027 term.

Important Dates

  • Nov 8: Launch call for applications
  • Nov 8 – Nov 28: Applications received, reviewed, and accepted or rejected on a rolling basis
  • November 28: Application deadline
  • December 1: Voting opens
  • Dec 1 – Dec 15: Voting and vote confirmation period
  • December 15: Vote confirmation period ends
  • December 16: Vote tally
  • December 16: Results announced at Annual General Meeting (7pm – 8pm pacific, zoom link tba — will update here prior to event)

Open Positions

  • Member of the Board / Member Engagement & Outreach Chair: Plan and curate outreach and engagement events, meetups, and conferences for Chapter members.
  • Member of the Board / Projects Chair: Define the project’s roadmap, pursue partnerships, apply for grants, and oversee project execution.
  • Member of the Board / Communication Chair: Ensure strategic communications with Chapter stakeholders via newsletters, website, social media, and manage branding/marketing.
  • Member of the Board / Industry and Academic Chair: Establish partnerships, secure sponsorships, corporate memberships, and build multi-year relationships with local academic institutions and corporations.
  • Member of the Board / Secretary: Responsible for maintaining accurate records of board meetings, ensuring compliance with organizational bylaws, and facilitating effective communication within the board.
  • Member of the Board / Vice President: As both a Board Member and Vice President, this individual combines board responsibilities with leadership duties, supporting Chapter initiatives and helping guide strategic decisions. The role involves active participation in board meetings, contributing to policy discussions, and assisting the President in managing Chapter operations. The Vice President also plays a key role in maintaining board cohesion and continuity of leadership.
  • Member of the Board / Volunteer Chair: The Volunteer Chair recruits, coordinates, and supports volunteers across the Chapter’s initiatives. This role includes developing a volunteer engagement strategy, organizing training and onboarding sessions, and fostering a community of active, dedicated volunteers. The Volunteer Chair ensures volunteers are matched with roles that align with their skills and the Chapter’s needs, strengthening the Chapter’s capacity to achieve its mission.
